AGU Fall Meeting Session - Coordination for Use-Inspired Convergence Research and Equitable Collaboration in the Arctic: A Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) Community Town Hall (TH45I)

As climate change warms the Arctic more than twice as fast as the rest of the planet, communities across the region face new and abundant challenges, including coastal erosion, food security, increasing shipping traffic and more. The National Science Foundation’s Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) initiative aims to improve understanding of Arctic change and to advance actionable knowledge through convergence research—collaborative research that draws on information and expertise from across disciplines and knowledge systems, including Indigenous Knowledge, to solve complex challenges.

NSF Navigating the NNA Proposal Preparation and Merit Review Process Workshop

The National Science Foundation (NSF) invites you to a Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) proposal writing workshop on December 9, 2021. This two-hour workshop will be held from 2:00pm-4:00pm Eastern Time / 12:00pm-2:00pm Mountain Time / 10:00am-12:00pm Alaska Time. The first hour will consist of an overview of the NSF review process and Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts criteria, as well as share most common mistakes made by investigators when submitting a proposal. The second hour will be structured around breakout rooms with NSF program officers.

Filmmaking Workshop

Interested in knowledge translation and techniques for science communication? Join producer, script writer, videographer, and editor Ryan Vachon (Provare Media) for a 90-minute filmmaking workshop. Ryan will work with attendees to identify a project mission statement, provide methods for storyboarding and communication, discuss camera and audio gear, approaches to filming, and provide an overview of basics in editing. Limited capacity.

The 2021 NNA Annual Community Meeting for investigators and partners will be held on November 8-10, 2021. This meeting, held in cooperation between the NNA-CO and the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) NNA Working group, will provide an important opportunity for NNA project teams, Arctic community members, Indigenous and Traditional knowledge holders, decision makers and other experts to gather to discuss and highlight progress, opportunities, and challenges across the NNA initiative.

Indigenous Gathering Virtual Open House

The NNA-CO Alaska Pacific University Community Extension Office invite you to attend a virtual Indigenous Gathering Open House (Nov. 3, 2021 from 1-3pm AK time) to meet the team, learn about the Extension Office, and provide feedback on how we can best serve and support community needs, priorities and research interests. Research interests can include (but are not limited to) topics such as Traditional Knowledge preservation and sharing, language revitalization, subsistence activities, food/water security, and environmental science including climate change.

NNA Broader Impacts Network Meeting #3 (for NNA-funded projects)

The NNA-CO invites NNA Broader Impact Network members to join us September 23 for our next meeting.
