As climate change warms the Arctic more than twice as fast as the rest of the planet, communities across the region face new and abundant challenges, including coastal erosion, food security, increasing shipping traffic and more. The National Science Foundation’s Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) initiative aims to improve understanding of Arctic change and to advance actionable knowledge through convergence research—collaborative research that draws on information and expertise from across disciplines and knowledge systems, including Indigenous Knowledge, to solve complex challenges. The Navigating the New Arctic Community Office (NNA-CO) supports this mission by building awareness, partnerships, opportunities, and resources for collaboration and equitable knowledge generation within, among, and beyond NNA-funded research projects. The NNA-CO is hosting this Town Hall to highlight and discuss current efforts to promote inclusive and collaborative research design and implementation; increase recognition of Indigenous knowledge and data sovereignty; and coordinate effective knowledge dissemination, education, and outreach. Current and prospective NNA researchers and collaborators are invited, along with anyone interested in learning more about convergence research and approaches for equitable research collaboration in the Arctic.
